As Crescent PPG continues to expand its footprint across Africa, our recent project in Zambia marks a milestone in industrial collaboration and global impact. Nestled in the mineral-rich heart of Southern Africa, Zambia is a landlocked nation with a population of over 30 million and a future brimming with promise. Known for its vast reserves of copper, coal, lithium, and rare earth elements, Zambia is fast emerging as a strategic hub for energy and infrastructure development.

At the center of this story is Maamba—a village that lends its name to Zambia’s largest thermal power plant. The 2 x 150 MW coal-fired facility, operated by Maamba Energy Limited, remains the country’s biggest independent power producer. Surrounded by lush green hills and engineered to global standards, the plant is a testament to Zambia’s commitment to energy security and sustainable industrialization.

Crescent PPG was invited to contribute to this landmark project, specifically for the rehabilitation of the DM Plant drains and the N Pit. Despite the challenges, including the need to execute acid-resistant FRP lining without a shutdown, our team delivered with precision and speed. The result? A seamless upgrade that met stringent safety and chemical resistance standards—without compromising operations.

What sets Maamba apart isn’t just its scale—it’s the culture. From top management to ground-level staff, safety is non-negotiable. The plant operates at an internal consumption rate of just 7%, outperforming the industrial benchmark of 10%. Ash and coal handling buildings gleam in white, a visual testament to housekeeping standards rarely seen even in larger industrial setups.

This ethos extends beyond the plant. Roads across Zambia reflect the same discipline and care. It’s not just infrastructure—it’s a mindset. And it’s one that Crescent PPG deeply respects and aligns with.
