One of our clients operated 8–10 bulk acid storage tanks built with Mild Steel (MS) and rubber lining—a standard setup for HCl. Yet over time, they faced a recurring issue:

• Small punctures (1–2 cm) appeared at the tank bottoms
• Failures occurred during idle periods, when tanks sat unused
• Resulting in environmental hazards, product loss, and costly maintenance

Our investigation revealed a subtle but critical factor: Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) contamination at 500 ppm. Though minor in concentration, EDC’s higher shockproof index (1.35 vs. HCl’s 1.1–1.2) made it more aggressive. It settled at the tank bottom, degrading the rubber lining from beneath.

This wasn’t a flaw in construction—it was a gap in chemical understanding. And it’s exactly the kind of issue Crescent PPG is built to anticipate.

• Reinforced the tank bottom with resistant brick lining up to 0.7 meters
• Selected materials engineered to withstand both HCl and EDC
